BALINESE DELICIOUS

ROASTED SUCKLING PIG


Suckling pig is one of the most famous Balinese dishes. This kind of dish can be found almost in all Balinese restaurants and warung. In Denpasar or Ubud or other places, you may find Balinese restaurant with "Bali Guling" menu. Bali guling is usually served with lawar and steamed rice. Babi guling can be found in many Balinese traditional ceremony, such as, wedding ceremony, otonan ceremony, odalan ceremony. The meaning of offering bali guling at the ceremony is to thank to God for all his blessings. 


BALINESE LAWAR




Lawar is other famous dish in Bali. It is made of mixed vegetables, coconut, minced meat mixed with Balinese spices. This kind of food can be found in Balinese restaurants and warungs. There are many kinds of lawar you can try in Bali, they are: "lawar babi" is lawar made of pork only without vegetables, "lawar nangka" is lawar made of young jackfruit, "lawar barak" is lawar made of pork with pig's blood and this made the color of lawar being red, "lawar putih" is lawar made of pork, coconut, and young jackfruit without pig's blood. This food also appeared in balinese traditional ceremony. The host usually serves steamed rice with lawar and babi guling. Besides as a food, lawar is also used for Balinese offerring, they call it "banten". Lawar is put in the "banten" for a certain meaning that is for offering for bhuta kala in order to maintain the life balance. Lawar is also made in a day before Galungan day. It becomes famous food to celebrate Galungan day.
